The Potato Peeler

There once as a young potato named Spunkelman. She was born and raised on a farm in Montreal Canada. The farm was named Rooster Heath because before the farmers got there it was a wasteland covered with shrubs, but they cleaned it up and turned it into a farm. The farmers worked at a chicken farm before they decided to grow veggies. The farm owner was named Dan Gruchy but the other farm hand called him "Dan the Man". Spunkelman lived with her mother Kara and her father Burnie as well as her brother "Little Spud" but his real name was Gavin. Spunkelman lived a good life, well as good a life as a potato could have. The only thing that she didn't like about the farm was some of the other veggies, mostly the carrots though. One carrot in particular, his name was Michael and he would pick n Spunkelman about her weight, the weird green bump on her, as well as other things. I forgot t mention that Spunkelman was born with a strange green bump. Her family just thought it was really rare or like a birthmark equivalent to a potato. Anyways back to Michael or what his friends called him "24 Karrot". They called him that because he was a rotten carrot with an even rottener attitude. Since he was rotten his skin was a yellowish-brown instead of the normal orange. He looked almost gold so they nick-named him "24 Karrot". One day while Spunkelman was hanging out with her Sp(B)uds, Michael walked up to her and started picking on her "Hey Spunkelman what are you and your small fry-friends doing" he said. She didn't respond. "I bet your too chicken to sleep in the crate by farmer Dan's house" said Michael. She had heard that farmer Dan would load up that crate with potato's and in the night two men would put then crate in the back of a truck, never to been seen again. But Spunkelman thought those were just tales. She accepted Michael's challenge and rolled herself towards farmer Dan's house. It took her all day but she eventually made it there. The moon was just rising and she was tired so she slipped int the crate through a small hole in the side just small enough for her to fit through. She was relieved to see no other potato's on the inside and she drifted to sleep. She felt something big hit her in the head and woke up to see the crate filled with other potato's. Spunkelman was wedged against the wall of the crate by the other potato's and she couldn't move. The crate started to move, Spunkelman looked through the crack in the side of the crate to see two men carrying it. They looked like mechanics minus the overalls, they had name tags. One was a Puerto Rican man with short black hair with the name tag "Ray", the other a white man with a curly mustache so perfect it was almost like a cartoon, his nametag said "Geoff". "Come on Narvaez Jr. pull your weight" said Geoff. Spunkelman saw a truck labelled "Gus's World Famous Shingle's". It had said Pringle's but some teenagers spray painted over the "P" and the "R" and replaced it with "S" and "H". The workers handed the crate to a worker in the back of the truck. He had blonde short hair and was white, he had a name tag that said "Ryan". Ray said "That's the last one" then got in the truck with Geoff, Ryan Closed the back door and sat in the back making sure that none of the crates spilled as the truck moved. Spunkelman couldn't see that much but could make out about 42 other crates. It was almost pitch black and the only light was coming from the dim glow from Ryan's phone. Spunkelman was so scared and wondered what they wanted with so many potato's. she laid awake all night wondering what Gus's world famous Shingles were, she was scared to find out. She laid awake until the truck came to a stop. Ryan got up and opened the back door of the truck then started grabbing crates and handing them to Ray and Geoff who would leave with them for a couple of minutes, then return to get another. They finally grabbed the one Spunkelman was in. As they were moving with her crate she looked through the crack, she was in a factory of some sort. She was dumped onto a conveyor belt. Beside her was another conveyor belt that had large metal tubes being wrapped with red paper that had writing on it. "Pringle's". It didnt say shingles on the truck it said Pringle's! Spunkelman had heard of Pringle's, her mother told her that her grandma Sweet Potato was turned into Pringle's. She had to get out of there but it was too late. A large man with a beard grabbed Spunkelman. He was holding a knife and was wearing gloves and a mask. She made out his name even though it was a very brief look at him and it said "Jack". She didn't see him for long because he had turned her over. She thought to herself how could it end this way, in such a horrible way when suddenly Jack dropped her into a garbage can filled with other potato's. Jack turned to a co-worker and said "It's a shame that whole bunch of potato's were infected". It was the green bump that saved Spunkelman. "Spunkelman is that you?". Spunkelman looked over to see her parents and her brother next to her. They all had green bumps now as well, she must have spread it to them during the truck ride, they were in one of the other crates she guessed, A day later Spunkelman and her family as well as tons of other Potato's were all sent to a landfill. They all live Happily together.

Stanley thought about leaving to go find Zero because he was worried that he might die out there alone. He wondered that if Zero was still alive would he have gone to "God's Thumb"? Stanley returns to camp to see Mr.Pendanski with 2 black eyes and a broken nose with a bandage around it, he was accompanied by Mr.Sir and The Warden. They asked Stanley if he had any idea where Zero might had gone but Stanley had no clue. The Warden told Mr.Sir to get rid of all the files that they had on Zero since nobody would know if he was gone anyways. The next day a new kid replaced Zero. His name was Brian nicknamed Twitch because he would fidget and twitch all the time. He was sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing a car he claimed that he could break into a car, disconnect the alarm and hot wire it in less than a minute.


While Mr.Sir was giving out water to Stanley was thinking about Zero and thought that he could steal the water truck and drive it until he found Zero. Stanley went around to the other side of the truck and saw that the keys were still in it he was hesitant but he got in the car and pushed on the gas. He drove straight into a hole and climbed out of the vehicle. Mr.Sir was standing above him and Stanley knew he would be in big trouble so he ran with his empty canteen around his neck. Stanley made a deal with himself that he would walk half as far as he thought he could then walk back to Camp Green Lake. He thought if he told the Warden where he actually found the gold tube then she would forgive him. Stanley had walked for hours when he thought he saw a pool of water in the distance but he was just hallucinating and it was a mirage. While walking Stanley found a sunflower sack with only one sunflower in it, that was Stanleys lunch, he took the sack and continued on. He was going to walk to God's Thumb but it was too far away so instead he walked towards a lump that he saw in the distance. Stanley made it to the lump and it was a upside down boat with the words Mary Lou on the side. Stanley heard something inside and before his eyes it emerged from under the boat. Zero.


Zero looked weak and his face was all bone he told Stanley to come under the boat since the shade was cooler. Stanley followed him under the boat and Zero offered him "Sploosh" what looked like jars of murky water that Zero was eating. Stanley knew Zero was eating this to survive so he ate a little it tasted of peaches. Zero refused to go back to Camp Green Lake saying he would rather die, so Stanley told him they were going to God's Thumb. They put a broken jar and a few extra jars in Stanleys sack and Zero took his shovel and they were off. They made it to the base of God's Thumb and started climbing the mountain.


They got to the base of where the thumb in the mountain actually starts and it was becoming night. There were bugs everywhere. Zero fell to his knees he was so weak and he threw up but continued on. Later Zero couldnt go anymore and collapsed he wouldnt move or talk Stanley wasnt sure if he was going to die. Stanley carried Zero on his shoulder leaving behind the shovel and sack. Stanley tripped and figured it was the end as he lay there in the mud but then Stanley realized you need water to make mud! Stanley dug a hole with his hands in the mud and dug deep enough to find some murky water he drank some and pour some over Zeros mouth. In the water Stanley felt something round he pulled it out to discover it was a onion he ate half and gave the rest to Zero. Zero told Stanley before falling asleep he was the one that stole Clyde Livingstons shoes and he left them on top of a parked car. Stanley thought he was just delirious.


For the next 2 days Stanley and Zero just slept, ate onions, and drank the water. Stanley dug the hole a bit bigger for fresher water but he knew he needed the shovel he just didnt want to leave Zero alone. Zero woke up and Stanley told him he was going to get the shovel and sack. Stanley was amazed at how far down it was because that meant he carried Zero that far up. Stanley later is told by Zero the full story on how and why he stole the shoes. Stanley figures that he cant live on this mountain forever and thinks about digging up whatever treasure is in the hole where he found the gold tube. He asks Zero if he wants to go dig it up and Zero says yes.


After a day of packing and resting the climb down the mountain and walk through the desert with the sack filled with a few bottles of water and onions as well as Stanleys filled canteen. While walking back to Camp Green Lake Zero tells Stanley about his mother and how one day she just left and didnt come back. Stanley and Zero arrive near Camp Green Lake and wait in a hole hidden until everyone is done digging and its night time. Once everyone's inside they make their way to the hole were the gold tube was. Stanley dug and Zero went and stole water as well as food. Stanley finds something in the hole but it is over top of the dirt pile so if he dug it out the dirt would collapse and cover up everything. They dont have enough time to move the dirt so Stanley digs a hole below it and pushes the shovel in then wiggles to try and push it out. Stanley is successful but it causes a cave in. The treasure the found is actually a locked suitcase. A white light flashes down at Stanley and Zero and Standing before them is The Warden, Mr.Pendanski, and Mr.Sir who is pointing a gun at them. Before they can react they notice a Yellow Spotted Lizard on the suitcase and then they realize that there is a Yellow Spotted Lizard nest in the hole.



The Warden is talking to Mr.Sir and Mr.Pendanski telling them that Stanleys parents will be told that he tried to run away in the night and fell in this hole then was bit by a Yellow Spotted Lizard. Mr.Pendanski then informs her that they wont think thats the truth because Stanley was to be released yesterday why would he run? The night passed and Stanley and Zero were both still alive. A car approached camp and a women and a man get out of it both dressed in suits. They are looking for Stanley they find him and Zero in the hole and help them out. Zero turns over the Suitcase to see that it says STANLEY YELNATS on the back of it.


Everyone returns to camp and Stanleys lawyer tells him hes free to go. Stanley will not leave unless Zero can come. His lawyer asks for The Warden to get Zero's Paperwork. The other Campers notice Stanley and Zero are back and come to greet them. Squid gives Stanley his mom's phone number and asks that Stanley calls he to say that "Alan is Sorry" Stanley agrees to do that. The Warden comes back and tells Stanleys lawyer she cant find any paperwork and tells Zero that hes coming with them. Stanley and Zero were driven to Stanleys parents apartment by Stanleys lawyer. For the First time in 110 years a rain drop fell in Camp Green Lake.


Stanleys dad opens the suite case and inside is a few gems worth a about 20 thousand dollars and a bunch of papers that are taxes, ect. worth just shy of 1 million for both Zero and Stanley. Stanley spends his money on a new house for his family and Zero spends his on a private investigation to find his mom. Zero does find his mom. Stanleys dad found a cure for foot odor and named it "Sploosh", The Warden had to sell Camp Green Lake and the reason the Yellow Spotted Lizards didnt bite Stanley and Zero is because they hate Onions and thats all they ate for a week.


So that concludes Holes. All in all I thought Holes was a fantastic book with some Memorable characters and a Very unique story. I liked putting together the clues that they put in the book to string everything together but also leaving like the author says on the 3rd last page "Holes for you to fill in yourself".

Now that I have finished the early chapters of Holes and reached about the half way point the story is getting deeper, darker, and more interesting. The characters are developing and showing there true colors and forming different relationships with other characters.


Stanley returns to his hole after showing Mr.Pendanski the fossil. X-Ray is sitting at the hole when Stanley returns. X-Ray informs Stanley that if he finds anything then he should give it to X-Ray because how is it fair that X-Ray has been there longer and Stanley has only been there a few days and if anyone was to get the day off it should be X-Ray because he has dug alot more holes then Stanley. Stanley agrees that if he finds anything he will give it to X-Ray. I think that Stanley was also partially scared of X-Ray and that's part of why he agreed. While digging Stanley imagines his camp mates all going to the same school and being friends with each other. Whenever someone would pick on Stanley he would have X-Ray or Squid back him up and tell the bully's to lay off. Stanley finishes his hole last again and returns to his tent where his camp mates are sitting in a circle with Mr.Pendanski. Mr.Pendanski is asking all of the boys what they would like to do with their future and none of them are taking it seriously. Mr.Pendanski asks Magnet and he says he wants to be a animal trainer and train animals for movies. Then he asks Zero and all Zero says is he likes digging holes. Stanley leaves and takes a shower then goes to bed.


The next day Stanley is digging and finds a gold tube in his hole. He cleans it off and looks at the bottom to see the letters KB engraved with a heart around them. Stanley thought about not giving it to X-Ray until someone saw him holding it. He gave it to X-Ray but told him not to use it that day since he was almost done his hole and he could use it tomorrow instead and get the whole day off. X-Ray agreed and let Stanley move one spot ahead in the water line so he was no longer in last and in front of Zero. The next day Stanley and X-Ray are eating breakfast and Stanley asks "Do you have the thing" X-Ray Replies with "What thing?" Stanley says "You know..." "No I dont know go away I dont want to talk to you!" Says X-Ray. Stanley wondered why X-Ray was being so mean and not answering his question. X-Ray gives the Gold Tube to Mr.Pendanski when he comes to give the boys water. Mr.Pendanski takes X-Ray to show it to the warden and X-Ray gets the day off. The Warden comes back to the Holes and tells the boys to start digging in partners.The Warden calls everyone by there nicknames how does she know their nicknames? ZigZag, Armpit Dig toghether, Magnet and Squid Dig another hole and Stanley, Zero, Dig another. The Warden gets with a fight Mr.Pendanski when she tells him to fill their canteens again even though Mr.Pendanski just filled them. She Stays there all day and says she will return tomorrow. When walking back to camp ZigZag tells Stanley that she has little cameras and microphones that are very small all around Camp Green Lake and that is how she knew their nicknames and thats why X-Ray wouldnt talk to Stanley this morning.

The next day they dig in the same place and make all 3 holes into one big one. When digging Stanley gets to close to ZigZag and he Accidentally hits Stanley in the head with his shovel.  Stanley falls down and is left with a small gash below his ear. Stanley continues to dig while hurt. The Warden realizes that it isn't safe for them to all dig so close to each other and decides that they will all dig their own holes in a different place the next day since they weren't finding anything else anyways. Stanley returns to camp and is given a letter from Mr.Pendanski. It is from his mom, Stanley opens it and reads it. Stanley notices Zero reading over his shoulder and tells him that hes not comfortable with him reading it. Zero says he isnt reading it and that he doesnt know how to read then asks Stanley if he can teach him to read and write and Stanley says no. When the water truck leaves the next day Magnet throws a Sunflower seed bag that he stole from Mr.Sir to the others. ZigZag throws it to Stanley and it spills all over Stanleys hole. Stanley sees Mr.Sir coming back and tries to cover it up but Mr.Sir finds them under his dirt. Stanley takes the blame for the others and said he stole them.


Mr.Sir takes Stanley to the Warden and tells her what he did but says that he doesnt think he did it alone and hes just covering for the others. The Warden tells Stanley to grab a white case with pink flowers from her washroom and bring it back. Stanley gives her the case and she opens it up and pulls out a case of red nail polish. She applies it to her fingernails and tells Stanley its made with Yellow Spotted Lizard Venom and its homemade. She says its only poisonous when wet and then strokes it her wet names slowly down Stanley's face. Stanley face feels tingly then the Warden turns around and claws her wet nails across Mr.Sirs face. It leaves a huge scar across his face and he starts yelling then falls to the floor. Stanley asks if he will live and the Warden says that he will then tells Stanley to leave.


Stanley walks back to his hole. While walking back Stanleys thinks about his grandfather and how his father told him that when he had all his money stolen that he lived in the desert for 17 days until he was found. He said that he only survived because of "Gods thumb" and nobody, not even himself knew what he meant. When Stanley makes it back to his hole he sees that Zero has already dug Stanley's hole for him. Stanley asks Zero why he dug for him and Zero says "You didnt steal the sunflower seeds... and you didnt steal the shoes". When Stanley is eating dinner that night he tells Zero that he can teach him to write a little bit since hes not as tired because he didnt have to dig. Stanley teaches him to say the alphabet and Zero makes a deal with him that if he teaches him how to write 5 capitals and 5 non-capitals a day until 56 and the last day 6 capitals and 6 non-capitals then he will dig for Stanley 1 hour a day. Stanley agrees but wonders how Zero is so good at math to know there are 56 letters when he didnt even know the alphabet. Zero tells him that he isnt dumb he just doesn't like answering peoples questions. later Stanley is trying to go to sleep but is thinking about what that gold tube could be and then realizes that he saw that shape at the Wardens house and that it is the top half of a lipstick tube. He wonders if the KB could stand for Kate Barlow.


110 Years ago Camp Green Lake was the biggest lake in Texas and in spring there were peach trees that grew around the lake. There was a town around the lake and each year at spring the would hold a contest for best  spiced peaches and every year a lady called Katherine Barlow would win. She was the only Teacher in the town and she owned a run down school house. She taught kids during the day and at the night she would teach adults. One of her students a rich man called Charles "Trout" Walker wanted to marry Katherine. He owned almost all of the peach trees that grew around the lake and everyone thought she would marry him. But Katherine wasnt interested.  There was a black man called Sam who sold onions in the town with his donkey Mary Lou. Katherine would buy onions from him and one day she looked sad. Sam asked her why and she said because it was going to rain and that would mean that the roof in the school house would leak. Sam made a deal with her he said that he would fix it for 6 jars of her spiced peaches. Katherine agreed and while fixing the roof they would have conversation and became good friends. She got him to fix other things until everything in the school was fixed. Katherine was sad that everything was fixed because she had grown to love Sam. One day when he was selling Onions she started crying and told Sam that her heart was breaking. Sam said "I can fix that" they then kissed. Someone saw the kissing and told everyone in town. It was Illegal for a black man to kiss a white women. No kids went to school the next day and a mob led by Trout Walker burned down the school. Katherine went to the sheriff for help but he was drunk and told her that he was going to hang Sam and then asked for a kiss. Katherine slapped the sheriff then left to find Sam. when she found him she told him they were going to kill her and they had to leave now. They had to leave Mary Lou behind because they left on boat and she was too big. They got far but Trout caught up and shot Sam in the head then took Katherine back to the town where she saw Mary Lou dead. To this day it hadnt rained in Camp Green Lake for 110 Years. Three days later Katherine shot the sheriff in the head and became Kissing Kate Barlow.


After 20 years Kissing Kate Barlow returned to the dried up Camp Green Lake. she took shelter in a cabin with 2 palm trees in front of it. She stayed in the cabin for 3 months and one morning she woke up to someone breaking down the door. It was Trout Walker and he was point a rifle right at Kate. Trout was with a girl that had red hair and was one of Kate's students when she was teaching, her name was Linda. She married Trout for his money but he no longer was rich so they were searching for Kate so they could take her fortune. Kate buried it all in the sand far away and refused to tell them where she left it. They made her walk for days with a gun pointed to her head until they found it she would be their prisoner. Until a Yellow Spotted Lizard bit her leg and she died laughing.


Stanley wakes up the next morning and goes to eat breakfast with the others. Stanley sees Mr.Sir for the first time since yesterday and his face has 3 big claw marks across his face. A kid from a different tent then Stanleys comments on Mr.Sirs face asking what happened. Mr.Sir grabs him by his collar and throws him. The kid hits his head on a table and is knocked out. Later when Stanley is digging his hole the water truck comes and everyone lines up. When its Stanley's turn to get water he notices its Mr.Sir and he grabs Stanleys canteen and puts the water hose slightly to the right of the canteen and pours the water onto the ground teasing Stanley. 3 Days pass and Mr.Sirs scar was mostly going away but he still wasnt filling Stanleys canteen but lucky for Stanley Mr.Pendanski would fill it more often and was aware what Mr.Sir was doing so would let Stanley drink a little then top it off. Zero was also taking a lot of work off of Stanley because he was helping dig. Although the other Campers didnt like that Stanley wasnt doing all his digging Stanley didnt care. Stanley knowing that Mr.Sir might come kept his canteen half full just in case. Mr.Sir did come but he filled Stanleys canteen then took it behind the truck and came back a few minutes later. Stanley was scared that Mr.Sir put something in it so he dumped out the water into the ground. Stanley finished his hole then taught Zero the last letters of the alphabet and then taught him how to spell his name. Zero tells Stanley his real name is Hector Zeroni.


The weather at Camp Green Lake had gotten hotter and when Stanley was digging his hole the next day there was a lightning storm in the mountains to the west. A flash of Lightning revealed a mountain that Stanley thought looked like a fist with a finger pointed out the top like a thumbs up. Could it be "God's Thumb"? The next day Stanley woke up and went to breakfast. ZigZag said it was his birthday and today was July 8th. Stanley had been there 46 days and dug 44 holes. ZigZag acted as royalty cutting in line, acting better than others, ect. Mr.Sir even gave him a extra juice carton. Stanley started his 45th hole and Mr.Sir gave him water this time. Later after getting their 2nd water fill for the day the other campmates were picking on Stanley and pushing him telling him that its not right that he doesnt dig his entire hole. Mr.Pendanski finished giving Zero water and came over to tell Stanley to fight back and not let them bully him. Stanley threw a punch at ZigZag and was thrown to the ground by him and beaten up. Zero grabbed ZigZag and started to strangle him then Mr.Pendanski shot his gun in the air and Zero let go. Mr.Sir and the Warden came running. The boys told them what happend and said they got mad because Zero was digging part of Stanleys holes. The Warden got mad and told Stanley and Zero no more teaching Zero to write or Digging Stanleys holes. Mr.Pendanski and The Warden picked on Zero saying how dumb he was he couldnt even spell fat, cat, or hat. Zero got fat and cat right but hat wrong and they called him dumb. Mr.Pendanski handed him a shovel and said "go dig your hole" Zero said "Im not digging holes... I hate digging holes." Zero took the shovel and hit Mr.Pendanski over the head with it. The Warden and Mr.Sir drew their guns and Zero backed up they helped Mr.Pendanski up. Stanley looked over to see if Zero had his water canteen but he didnt. Stanley looked back and Zero was gone.



Things got darker in these Chapters and there was a lot of back story which I found interesting. Chapter 30 was also the Climax. Cant wait to see what happens next and where Zero goes from here especially without water how will he survive and what will Stanley do.

I am reading the book Holes. So far I have completed chapters 1-10. I Enjoy reading Holes because of the unique concept of the book, the setting of the book and the diverse characters in the book. The story takes place in Modern time Texas. The main character is Stanley Yelnats V (which is also Yelnats Stanley Backwords). He is a poor, overweight kid who is picked on at school and steals a pair of sneakers which lands him a spot in Camp Green Lake even though its not his fault and its all thanks to his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-grandpa".


 Stanleys great grandpa named Elya Yelnats was cursed by a gypsy with one leg called Madame Zeroni and brought bad luck to his family forever. He was 15 and loved a girl called Myra who he wanted to marry but she was 14 and needed the approval of her father when she turned 15 to get married to whoever he picked a older man called Igor offered a pig for Myra's hand in Marriage. Elya had nothing to offer so he asked Madame Zeroni for help. She told him Myra was dumb and Elya deserved better but he insisted he loved her. Madame Zeroni agreed to help so she gave Elya a pig and told him every day to bring him to the top of the mountain to drink and every day the pig would grow and Elya would become stronger and once he had married Myra in 2 months he would have to come back to Madame Zeroni and carry her up the mountain to drink from the water before she died and if he didnt he would be cursed forever. Elya agreed and after 2 months he and the pig grew. When the time came Elya ended up tieing and both Igor and Elya had the same weighted pig so Myra's father let Myra choose. Myra couldnt decide and told them to both pick a number between 1-10. Elya realized Madame Zeroni was right and Myra was dumb so he let her keep the pig and marry Igor. Elya was so sad that he went aboard a free boat trip to america but he had forgotten about Madame Zeroni and was cursed. Elya met a girl called Sarah Miller which he married and had a son named Stanley Yelnats (the First). The curse was passed down and Stanley Yelnats I was robbed of all his money by a famous Bandit Kissing Kate Barlow while moving.


 Anyways Stanley Yelnats V lost in court because he didnt have a lawyer and his only defense was "I didnt do it" He was Sentenced to Jail or Camp Green Lake which was like Jail but worse. Stanley picks camp green lake thinking its a summer camp when in actuality its a desert wasteland with no water for miles in a rundown town where all you do every day is dig a hole thats 5 feet in every direction in the Scorching hot sun. Its run by Mr.Sir, The Warden, and Mr.PenDanSki The Counselor or his nickname "Mom". Stanley is Introduced to the fellow campers Alan "Squid", Rex "X-Ray" Jose "Magnet", Theodore "Armpit", Ricky "ZigZag" and Zero. For some reason Zero is called Dumb by everyone and never talks. Stanley takes the spot of Lewis Nicknamed "BarfBag" whos in the Hospital they didn't say what from but I wonder if its from someone beating him up? A sickness possibly tied to the nickname BarfBag? Being out in the sun for to long with no water? Or he got bit by a Yellow Spotted Lizard which kill you guaranteed but you die a slow painful death which is funny because in real life the Yellow spotted lizard in do live in Texas but are in no way poisonous.


 I was also wondering why Stanley steals the shoes in the first place he said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time but he says that he was bullied the day it happened I thought he was mad and stole them. But Stanley reveals to the his camp mates that he was walking home one day and they fell frm a overhang and into his hands. They were owned by a famous Baseball player Clyde Livingston "Sweet Feet" and the shoes were to be auctioned for $5000 to help a orphanage but they were stolen. If Stanley didnt originally steal the shoes who did?


 Mr.Pendanski and Mr.Sir drove the Campers out far into the dried up lake to dig. Stanley was told by Mr.Pendanski that if he found anything interesting then tell him or Mr.Sir and if the Warden likes it then Stanley gets the day off. It was a hard first day for Stanley he was the last to finish Zero being the first making a perfect hole. Stanley finished in blood, blisters, and sweat. Stanley was given the nickname Caveman. His Second day was alot harder then the first because of all the blisters. He saw something in the dirt and uncovered it and saw that it was a fish fossil. He handed it to Mr.Pendanski and he said that it wasnt of interest. What were they looking to dig up? Thats the end of Chapter 10 im Excited to read more and see how the story unfolds although I dont like Stanleys character to much because he is a generic main character with his only Semi-unique feature being that he is overweight.
